Susan Dehn Matthews holds a Master of Arts degree in Religious Education and Pastoral Ministry from Mundelein College of Loyola University, Chicago (1979), as well as a Master of Arts in Educational Administration from Dominican University, River Forest (1997). Her areas of professional interest include the history of women’s spirituality, Creation-centered spirituality, and Scriptural interpretation and reflection. Trained and certified in spiritual companioning and spiritual direction, Susan is also a certified Pastoral Associate who facilitates a variety of opportunities for Scripture reflection and adult spiritual formation. She writes frequently for parish publications on various topics concerning Scripture and spirituality. Her work, spanning almost four decades, has been diverse and her ministries include spiritual direction, pastoral counseling, retreat leadership, and creative liturgical planning. As an educator, she has served both as an instructor and as an administrator on the elementary, secondary and university levels. In recent years, Susan served as a visiting faculty member for the Hesburgh Sabbatical Program at the Catholic Theological Union in Chicago. Additionally, she has presented a variety of workshops and evenings of reflection for parishes and schools in the Chicago area.
A native of the Chicago suburbs, Susan has two adult daughters. In her free time, she enjoys art history, reading, and traveling.
